Chandler-Gilbert Community College is a two-year public community college, founded in 1985 as an extension to Mesa Community College. In 1992, it was independently accredited, and now operates three campuses. The campus in Chandler has about 9,000 students enrolled each year in general education, university transfer, occupational, and continuing education programs. This campus features several unique facilities including a beautiful library, a performing arts center, and student center as well as a fitness center and athletics fields, and offers a broad array of courses and program offerings.
Arizona State University is located 14 miles from downtown Chandler. This university was established in 1885, and is a public research institution of higher education and research. It consists of four campuses, and as of 2006, the main campus (in Tempe, Arizona) was named the second-largest university campus in terms of student enrollment in the United States. The three other campuses consists of: its West campus - created in 1984 in Phoenix; its Polytechnic campus - opened in 1996 in Mesa; and its newest campus in Downtown Phoenix, which opened in August 2006. ASU offers over 250 majors to undergraduate students, and more than 100 graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees.
