Environmental Education Center

Chandler's Environmental Education Center is located at Veterans Oasis Park and is meant to expand local students learning by working with their teachers to create unique and interesting programs that combine environmental issues with math, science, writing, reading, art and music. There are also four different class sessions running throughout the year that offer a number of programs for those children that are interested in the world around them and want to learn more. This could be the perfect extra curricular activity for a kid who's thinking of becoming a biologist or one who will run a green construction franchise when they are older. Here is a little more about the programs available at the EEC.

If you're looking for a great summer outing with the family than you might want to check out the guided tours available through Veterans Oasis Park. These take place on the third Saturday of the month and can be a great escape from installing that new Baxi boiler in the basement or could be a fun activity when you're babysitting for a friend. There are also specialized tours that run throughout the summer like Dragonfly Day and the Walk With the Dragonflies and Butterflies Tour.

For those more interested in the outdoors than their kids, you may enjoy attending the Coffee with a Naturalist program or viewing one of the experts in the Guest Speaker series. All of the dates and times for these programs are available in the summer issue of the city's Break Time magazine. There are also several programs for those fifty-five years and older who are retired from working at the bank or making vanity cabinets and are looking for a fun weekly activity.

Nature parties are also becoming more popular for children of all ages and are available through the Center in a variety of themes. Younger children who might still be in cloth diapers can participate in the Bugs! Party Or Garden Party and kids up to the age of twelve have the choice of having a camp-out, going on an eco-quest, or participating in a Night Sky party that allows them to examine the stars and play space-themed games.

If you want your child to learn all about trees, animals, and the effects of waste water treatment chemicals then you should consider signing them up for one of the programs available at EEC or should speak to their school about creating a partnership with the center. The EEC is open Monday through Saturday throughout the year and Veterans Oasis Park is open every day from 6am to 10:30 pm. If you would like more information about the EEC you should attend one of their open houses to sample all of the different activities offered there.
